This season’s unseasonably cool temperature swings have many local youths opting for indoor leisure time over traditional Spring activities. The Observer’s polling center reports an 11% drop this month in the number of area children riding bikes, a 17% percent decline in street football participation and rope-skipping has reached an all time low. Officials with the District’s Department of Parks and Recreation could not be reached for comment. “It’s a little bit chillier than usual, I guess” remarked a local dog walker, “but, those kids really need to get off their behinds.” Meteorologists at the Hughes Tower Observatory forecast a few more weeks of unpredictability before warmer temperatures and the great outdoor migration of Peabody street’s children can be expected.
